Sydney’s best chefs and restaurants have been nominated and winners of the Good Food Guide Awards will be anounced Monday September 2.

This year Asian cuisine is trending as some of the best food around town with the dumpling king, Mr Wong being placed in three categories and their head chef Dan Hong in the running for the Best Chef title. His competitors include head chefs at Sydney’s most influential restaurants, Martin Benn at Sepia and Ben Greeno at Momofuku Seiobo.

“There's a general loosening up as our top chefs realise they don't have to follow anyone's rules any more," said Sydney Morning Herald's Terry Durack, Good Food Guide chief reviewer.

Phil Perry, head chef at Rockpool has showcased the new direction gourmet dining is heading in, being influenced by Asian techniques and seasonings to create his unique Australian-Asian style.
